I just love a clean and tidy house. It brings me peace after a crazy day at work. But it wasn’t always that way, especially when I have a little human running around. So, how do I save my sanity and still have a clean home? I’ll share with you 5 quick and easy cleaning hacks that you can do at any time of the day during any week of the month.

It might just be me, but growing up I always had a clean room. Even when I got an office job and I had my own desk, everything was neat and organized. A clean space always made me feel organized and relaxed.

Now that I’m a full time working parent with a home to care for, I had to go through a learning process of what works when it comes down to cleaning hacks.

It would be so much easier if I just hired a cleaner but even if I had the money, I’d be too frugal about it. But I get it, work and life just get in the way. If you want your house to be clean and you don’t have the time to get it all done, then these cleaning hacks will be your lifesaver!

Make these cleaning hacks a part of your daily routine and over time you’ll see a reduction in clutter, dust bunnies, and dirt tracks all over your home.

A LITTLE EVERY DAY GOES A LONG WAY

When we first moved into our home, I had saved my weekend to clean the house and do laundry. I did that for almost a year until I finally said ‘I give up!’ It was so exhausting to be cleaning and running errands the whole day. I had absolutely no time for myself! What’s worse is that it also affected the quality time with my son! The weekend is my day off and I was supposed to be enjoying it. It was pretty sad actually.

So what did I do differently?

I stopped cleaning the whole house in one day and tried to spread out my errands throughout the week.

Yep. You heard me. Trying to do everything in one day is not worth losing my sanity.

  • Every night before heading upstairs, I wiped down my kitchen counters and put away any clutter.
  • The trash gets thrown away every night. Our area is hot so I don’t want to come home to a stinky kitchen.
  • I put foil on my gas stove top to minimize cleaning.
  • I keep disinfecting wipes and gloves in each bathroom for quick cleanups. Sometimes little boys miss the target when they have to empty their bladders.
  • Each bathroom has its own toilet cleaner so I don’t have to touch anything yucky.

MY AWESOME GO-TO PRODUCTS FOR QUICK CLEANING HACKS

Investing in products will help you keep your house clean when you’re pressed for time. These products have become my favorites and have always been a part of my cleaning hacks.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

Have you ever seen a dirty door frame or a dirty light switch? This does wonders to quickly remove stains on a lot of surfaces!

Swiffer WetJet Hardwood and Floor Spray Mop Cleaner Starter Kit

I had a coupon for this from the Sunday newspaper and it just so happens that it was also on sale. I decided to try it out on my floors since it seemed like it was less of a hassle dragging a bucket with me. Wow. I love this! The starter kit was perfect for testing this product out and since then, I just purchase the refills and continue using it to this day! It’s even handy to have for spills that need a quick clean up. It’s a convenient tool to have without a bucket. What’s cute is that once my son sees me pulling this out, he immediately says “I want to help!” I guess to him he sees it as a toy.

Hand Made Straw Soft Broom (Asian Broom)

My mom had bought me one of these when we had our housewarming party. It’s one of the best presents I have ever received! I grew up seeing my parents sweep all over the house with this and it’s a lot softer. The material is perfect for sweeping up dust and debris in all areas of the house. Just don’t use it in the garage, I recommend just using this for inside only.

Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush Starter Kit and Caddy

Now that I have a young son to care for, I was very particular about the products I was going to have around the house. I wanted something that could be stored and not much of a hassle regarding set up. I also had a coupon for this item and I was curious to try it out. I love this because it comes as a set and you don’t have to touch anything dirty. This item is so convenient I went out and bought 2 more – one for each bathroom lol.

Disinfecting Wipes

Whether the brand is from Clorox, Lysol or some unknown brand, I have a container in the kitchen and in each bathroom. Super convenient to have where you don’t have to mess with sprays and paper towels.

GET RID OF CLUTTER

Clutter is the biggest culprit that will make any house look messy no matter which part of the house you’re in.

Items to use?

Baskets.

No joke. Baskets will help you declutter a room instantly. I have a six cube shelf in the living room and it used to look ugly because I could see all the clutter. My aunt had given me those foldable baskets for cube shelves it and it instantly looked so much cleaner and nicer to look at. Various sized boxes is also another option to use.

Shoe Organizer.

Another item that I ended up loving is a shoe organizer I got from Walmart. The organizer that I have below is the same exact one I use for my son’s toys. Yep. You read that right. It’s perfect for quick access to toys and it’s even easier for my son to clean up his toys. Another feature this product has is that it’s stackable.

I liked this product so much, I bought a second one to use for our shoes. I should have bought a third one, I used up all the space lol.

Laundry basket.

I prefer a tall laundry basket that I can stuff in our closet for dirty clothes. The low rectangle baskets are good but they take up space and I would be left with a lot of open space above the basket that isn’t being utilized.

PLAN YOUR CHORES ON CERTAIN DAYS

I just love having a to-do list because it comes in handy. It’s a reminder of what I have to get done. Now that I no longer cram my day with cleaning, I manage it through scheduling. Cleaning doesn’t have to be depressing either. Have other members of the household help with certain tasks or play your favorite music, podcast, or even an audiobook to keep you in a positive mood.

Remember, cleaning doesn’t have to be such a daunting task, these easy cleaning hacks will help you get your time back. When you spread your tasks throughout the day, cleaning becomes much easier especially when you follow these quick cleaning hacks.

DON’T FORGET TO SAVE MONEY AS WELL

Like I have mentioned above, I had some coupons that got me to try some cleaning products. As much as we want our house clean, save some money as well. I get some coupons from Sunday papers and printable coupons from Coupons.com.

  1. I just spent 20 minutes wiping down the kitchen counters and wiping the floor. They counters (especially around the sink area) get so disgusting. I have dark granite countertops so you don’t know how dirty they are until you wipe them down. Gross! I will try and do this more often now. I like a clean home too but it gets overwhelming to try and clean once a week.

Thank you for sharing these tips!

    1. lol thanks for your comment! In a way I wish I had dark counter tops. Mines is white which makes everything more visible. I think that’s why it would drive me crazy sometimes and I have to constantly wipe everything down.

  2. We have disinfecting wipe containers everywhere. Got one in our living room, bathroom, kitchen and even in our car. Mother with Cents always warns me to use it when throwing away the trash. She even uses it to wipe down shopping carts when we go to Costco or any other supermarket. But I get it, need to reduce the amount of germs we could get and it helps too because we barely get sick now.

    1. Not getting sick a lot is a good thing lol. I work in the hospital with the Infection Control department and I guess their phobia of germs rubbed off on me. Plus, I think its worse now because I have a child to take care of lol.

  3. I try to use the same counter section for multiple things so I don’t have to wipe all the counters. This means that when I’m making breakfast I have to use ingredients and put them back one by one. I’m definitely going to try out this Mr. Clean Eraser though; thanks for the recommendation!

    1. Thanks for your comment SMM! I did try the foil on the stove top hack. That’s the one thing I wipe down constantly other than the countertops. It’s a bit of a process trying to cover as much surface as I could with foil but at the same time, it’s one less thing for me to worry about lol. Plus, I decided to try it because my boyfriend is the messy cook.
