I never would’ve imagined my Instagram page to grow in five months. When my blog finally went live, I became very active with Instagram and I must admit that it did take me awhile to find my aesthetic look of my page. You could still say that I’m still playing around with it and finding out what works and what doesn’t work.
Here you’ll find my very first post from April 20. You can obviously see that my avatar had changed. I’ve come a long way lol.
Before I continue, I’d like to share that links below may contain my affiliate links. What it means is that I could receive a small commission if you click on a link to the product or service that I use myself and recommend to you.
Here is what I did for my page that you could do too to build your Instagram page.
Let’s take a look at your page, do you have a theme going on or is it all over the place?
When I first started with my page, it was all over the place as I didn’t know yet what my theme would be. I would say I improved a lot since I first started and it looks so much better. I stick with the same colors and created templates to reuse if I had quotes to share or even money tips.
Like Photos and Leave Meaningful Comments
Take the time to look through your follower’s photos, read their captions, and leave them a meaningful comment. This shows others that you are paying attention to what your followers are posting. This also allows for mini conversations to happen within the comment section.
Repost and Tag Other Users
If you like a post or a quote that you see in your feed and you think that your followers could benefit from it, feel free to repost it. The best thing to do first is to get permission from the user that posted it before reposting in case there might be legalities involved. Once you repost it, don’t forget to give credit to where it’s due. No one likes stealing or plagiarism.
The app that I like to use is called Regrann. As you can see my post below, it shows a little tag on the photo with the username on it.
List Your Hashtags in the Comment Section
I don’t know if you noticed on my page, but if you take a look at my comments section, I have all my popular hashtags listed. My reason for it is I wanted my post to look clean and not cluttered. Plus, if a hashtag doesn’t seem to be working or for whatever reason, it gets blocked, I can just delete the comment and re-paste it. When Instagram was still old school, they didn’t allow you to make edits to your post. If you wanted to make edits, you had to delete your post and repost it. It was super humbug so listing all hashtags in the comments section made it so much easier for me. I save my hashtags in my Notes app on my phone and I just copy and paste when needed.
Create a Day to Shout Out Other Users
I created a template titled Amazing Journey’s to Follow. This is my turn to give a shout out to a few of my followers every Friday and to just show my appreciation to the amazing people that I connect with. It could be someone who blogs about personal finance or someone sharing their debt free journey. I just started this and so far it has been positive.
Use Stories to Share Your Personal Side of You
I’ve recently started using Stories and I must admit that it took me awhile to learn how to use it. I like to share my personal side of me but if you’ve seen them recently, it’s mostly me at the beach after a work day because the boyfriend is in the water fishing for bait. BUT, it’s also a perfect time for me to network on social media, read blogs, and write possible blog topics all in a two-hour time frame.
Network with Others and Use DM’s
Take the time to get to know your followers and send DM’s. It’s always nice to take an extra step to connecting with a follower and ask questions about their journey.
If you can, try and do a giveaway. This would be great exposure to new followers and you can set your own rules. Your rules could include, must be a follower and tag a friend in the comment section below.
I haven’t done this yet, but I think I’ll do my first giveaway around Christmas time. I’m not sure what yet as I have so many fun ideas. A few ideas could be a Hawaii gift bag giveaway, a blogging course giveaway such as Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing, or maybe a cash gift card since everyone is trying to pay off debt. Whatever it is, it will be awesome!
Stay Active by Posting at Least Once A Day
I did have some trouble with this at the beginning because I was always sporadic with daily new posts. To help me with this, I started using Tailwind. I tried out their free trial and after it ended I realized I cannot live without it. I really like the service because it’s so simple to navigate my way around and I also got the service for Pinterest.
Build Your Instagram Page the Right Way
Constantly posting random images
If you have some sort of theme and or niche, I say stick with it. It helps not to confuse people when they visit your page. If you’re all about food, share food and recipes images.
Don’t cause drama or be fake
Drama tends to turn people the other way and being fake is something that people can pick up.
People know if you are genuinely real or not. It’s all about the engagement and how sincere you are.
I hope you’ll find these tips helpful and I look forward to seeing you build your Instagram page!
Helpful Resources that I’d Like to Share:
Below you’ll find my top resources for blogging, saving money & more!
Blog Resources: Here is a list of tools that I personally use for my own blog. See all the courses I took to improve how I blog and the list of plugins that help keep my blog running smoothly.
Save Money on Groceries: This has been such a struggle for me since day 1 and I always go over budget with grocery shopping on certain weeks. But as long as I stick with my plan, I have my shopping list, and I leave the boyfriend home then I’ll be fine.
$5 Meal Plan: This has been such a time saver for me! This relates to my resource above on grocery shopping. I struggled with meal prepping because I just don’t have the time to spend looking for recipes. I decided to try this out because I have seen popular bloggers mention it and curiosity got the best of me. The system sends me recipes and a shopping list weekly. The recipes are so easy to cook and it helps me save time.
Personal Capital: Do you know what your net worth is currently? Instead of logging into many accounts to track my net worth, I rely on one service. Personal Capital tracks your investments, expenses, and savings. The best thing about this? It’s free!
Free Printables: I went a bit crazy and created a bunch of my own printables that I use for myself to help keep me organized. I also find some amazing printables online that I’d like to share with you. You access everything if you sign up below. I’ll send you the password and the library is yours to enjoy!
