Make Friends with Like Minded Individuals to Help with Accountability

Make Friends with Like Minded IndividualsHow to make friends with like minded individuals may be easier said than done. The reason be it is trying to figure out where to find these individuals.

Now how would you go about doing that?

It’s not like I can hold up a sign that asks “Are you on a debt free journey? If so, I want to be your friend!”

I’ll most likely get weird stares from folks passing by.

I’m currently at a stage right now where my blog is new, I’m still finding my voice in how I write, and I’m a new baby in the finance world.

Basically, I’m looking for guidance on how I can reach my goals.

How can I accomplish my goals if I’m such a newbie and know nothing about personal finance?

Again, it all started with one blog. Grant from millenialmoney.com started with nothing but worked hard to reach where he’s at today. His blog made me feel like we were like minded people striving for the same things….except he was already successful and I was not. I felt encouraged to learn more and whoever he interviewed, I followed. I wanted to build my knowledge and just learn from these successful like minded bloggers.

Who wouldn’t want to have $500,000 saved up somewhere?

I certainly do!

Why You Need to Make Friends with Like Minded Individuals

You learn from different things from like minded people.

I have to admit that blogging and staying consistent with my posts is hard. It’s actually the hardest trying to find the time to sit down and write. To help me keep going, I read other blogs.

Remember when I mentioned that I followed other bloggers that Grant mentioned in his blog? I followed them because he provided that info to me. He found the info they shared would be of value to his readers. Plus, I wasn’t about to go online and search for like minded people.

No way!

Too much work.

I don’t like wasting my time. Time is precious to me even when I don’t have a lot of ‘Me’ time. Plus, I trust what he says.

Like minded people will help you stay motivated and accountable.

With my list of favorite bloggers, I subscribe to their mailing list to receive their new content. I much rather have new blog posts to read every day instead of junk mail. No one likes junk mail. I get excited when I receive a new email from my favorite blogger. Reading new blog posts, especially in the morning before I start work, puts me in a good mood and helps me remember why I even got started with my journey.

Where to make friends with like minded individuals.

If you have a favorite blogger and they mention other like minded bloggers in the same niche, it doesn’t hurt to check them out. They’re mentioned for a reason and that reason is the knowledge they have to share will help you. If they have a Facebook group, follow it. It’s a great way to be a part of the community where you can share ideas and strategies that you think will help other people.

Have you seen my list of favorite bloggers yet? You can see it here, 6 Personal Finance Blogs for Millennials.

I will refer back to them as much as I can because they are guides that will help me reach my goals.

You can find similar groups on Facebook and follow popular hashtags such as #debtfreecommunity on Instagram. Those are one of my favorite hashtags to search through.

Want to find even more like minded people?

I’m on this directory called rockstarfinance.com and my blog is listed there. If you have a finance blog, I definitely recommend submitting your blog there.

Woot woot!

Here’s my proof.

like minded

This site is run by J. Money (budgetsaresexy.com) and Steve Adcock (thinksaveretire.com). I give them props because it’s awesome to find all these like minded people in one place. It just makes it so much easier to different content to read and bloggers to connect with.

Like minded individuals helps you grow.

Have you ever hung out with people that likes to poke fun at you and seems to always put you down?

It’s never fun.

It’s depressing.

Why would anyone want to hang out with people who treats you that way?

The reason why you want to hang out with like minded people is because they help you grow. They’re your guides, your cheerleaders, the folks that has the same goals as you.

If you hang out with negative people, you’ll go nowhere.

If you hang out with positive people, you’ll find inspiration that will help you grow.

You’ll keep moving forward and you’ll never ever look back again.
